If added, I would kindly request it to be optional. There are days at which I rebuild hundreds of times in a row. Then I upload the 'finalized' version. I would like it to keep a logical sequence.

Me too. If not optional, the build number would get big very fast for me.

I don't have the problem of frequent compilation. It is sometimes a few days of coding before I compile.

However, it will be real goodness to keep it optional.

An immediate approach would be to have something in the string format, as for example yyyy.mm.dd.numOfDailyBuild.

Don't know if it's good or bad, but I compile almost each time I make a few changes to check. I can only guess what a mess I would have if I coded for a few days first. I guess that happens as you get old.:signOops:

I'm still not sure whether it will be added in the next update. Such a feature will always be optional.

Suggestion:

Have separate menu options for development build and deployment build.

* Development build. The one we have today.
* Deployment build. Increment version, only allows "release" and "release (obfuscated)".

Perhaps one could also add build actions that run only on a deployment build, for automatic deployment or other finalizing.

You can use the standard conditional compilation feature to run different actions based on the deployment mode (RELEASE vs DEBUG).

I haven't tried to create such a solution with build actions. It will probably be simpler to implement this with the new command line compiler (create a small B4J program or script that updates the field and then builds the project).

How about a little button that just says increment build number
But it would be nice to be able to retrieve the build number anywhere in the application as I use version to make sure that clients are running the current version

Example:
dim v,d as String
v = application.BuildNumber
d = application.BuildDate
