Backup & sync apps you are working on

Just wondering where everyone backs up their projects etc.

I would like to have auto backup with versioning.
Be able to sync between my laptop and my pc so I can chop and change at will.

I have tried google drive and OneDrive but sometimes get problems at compile time etc.

Interested in thoughts/ideas

I use Dropbox for all Documents and Apps... but i do not have it running on auto. I manually start it up (more for Backup than Syncing) when I feel important / significant changes have been made.

When going away (which is happening tomorrow for 12 weeks ..) I will Sync the PC and Surface Pro pad so I can code (if needed) while on the road,
then manually re-sync on return

As you mentioned , from memory I had issues of some form having Dropbox running continuously while I was coding but cant recall the exact issue ..
so this is now the habit and it has worked perfectly so far ... but as I am typing I fear a disaster is looming and wonder if I should be starting Dropbox
up a little more often.

I'm using MEGA and I'm very satisfied at the moment. This is the way I sync all my projects between PC and laptop. And you have 20GB of space...

I'm playing with Goodsync at the moment and syncing my Project and also additional lib folders.
Looks like it will do what I want just have to fire it up every so often I guess but still working it out.

You can create private repos that are visible to you:



There are countless youtube videos on how to use github and it's great for tracking your changes, it's saved my ass many times now. And you can work on big new features and release bugfixes for your production version on the side

I use a combination of Dropbox, Backblaze and GitHub. Never had any issues with Dropbox locking files unless its a big SQLite file.

Also, take a look at my b4x_cba tool, it allows you to zip projects to another directory and push code to GitHub. Its very simple to set up.

Ever since Erel introduced custom build actions I have used a collection of batch files to do certain things when I do a release build eg copy the jar to another folder, compile only etc. I've finally decided to combine these into a single console application (in C#) instead of a bunch of messy...

Just a note on b4x_cba, it doesnt support multiple project folders (eg B4X Pages) yet. Im working on that.

Do you guys backup all directories and sub directories. It seems to me to not be necessary but not sure how deep to go.

Make sure you set your .gitignore correctly so that your repo does not include all of the temporary compilation files under Objects

one assumes you read this as well

Used to use Rsync and Synctoy years ago - but then just went to a NAS with one in another building (like the stuff in @ilan post linked above). These were set to incremental sync so just changed files were uploaded. It also allows space for all directories etc ..

The problem with "the cloud" here and in similar countries is - bandwidth (expensive), shaky/flaky connectivity, rolling black outs, etc ect.. so, where there is local UPS working (or for me - now solar off grid) it's safer feeling.

I have a NAS and wasn't using it. It was sitting in the cupboard next to the router chewing electricity but forgotten about.
I now have GoodSync backing up to NAS, NAS backsup to Google drive and One Drive.
GoodSync also sync's to my laptop when I choose.

Backing up is simple - just copy your B4A directory in safe place. Later you can sync one instead of full copy and it is faster. I use FreeFileSync and found it indispensable. Sync between laptop and desktop...... I been battling with this dilemma 20 years ago. But since 2010 or so laptops became so damn powerful that I have ditched all desktops and just carry my laptop around.
