Hi Everyone,

Please can you check if this is happening to other Basic4Android developers who ask Basic4Android questions on stackoverflow.

I currently lost over 10 reputation points most of the time when I ask Basic4Android questions on stackoverflow. I had to delete most of my Basic4Android posts to stop the down voting but I left one up so you can see what someone has been doing to my reputation points.

Looking for layout xml files for the project - Stack Overflow

It seems someone is feeling threatened maybe by the best software out there (Basic4Android) is going to take their Java job away from them.

I will ask one more Basic4Android question on stackoverflow. If they down vote me, I will just play it safe and stick to this forum where it's save and I'm surrounded by great support.

Truly,
Emad

I think adding tags other than Basic4Android makes it open for others that don't know Basic4Android to view and comment on.

If they don't understand the question then they may feel it is in-appropriate and down vote it.

Try sticking to just the Basic4Android tag. It'll be found by the people that can answer your question best.

I don't like it either.
Especially when we see an answer like this:
Question:
I have a special calculator with its own keypad that has 4 EditText boxes. I want to use a button to switch between the 4 EditText boxes.
Answer from a moderator:
closed as not a real question by Bill the Lizard♦ 1 hour ago.
It's difficult to tell what is being asked here. This question is ambiguous, vague, incomplete, overly broad, or rhetorical and cannot be reasonably answered in its current form. See the FAQ.
@rckb2: Try to use EditText1.RequestFocus in the Button_Click event.

I'm convinced that having two forums is not efficient for the users.

Best regards.

I'm glad someone posted comments about StackOverFlow.. I agree, having more than one forum to check is a pain, and I can see most folks are still using the original forum. Besides, if I post on Stackoverflow I won't ever get any more green stars next to my name!

Well, StackOverflow is a huge comunity and I have found it very useful over the years, especially when having a certain urgency to get my problem resolved. Any time of the year and even in the middle of night, it is rather easy to get a reply. On overall I like SO but I must agree that it is better, at least for now, that B4A stays here at the forum. Of course, SO is a great way to get B4A better known but at the end of the day, I think users will eventually find B4A when searching for something they don't understand in Java/Eclipse and realize it can be done easily in B4A (in an easy dialect of VB). In this way, the B4A-comunity will grow further.

Very often I get the impression, not only at SO, that people think B4A is a toy-language. If they only knew.......:)

If one uses SO, one should definitely only use the Basic4Android-flag. Not only for the reasons mentioned by Steve above but also to avoid that helful and friendly SO-users "looses precious time" by giving legitimate replies in Java just because the Android-flag was included or B4A was not mentioned at all. See my post here:

I loathe Stack Overflow. the moderators are too full of themselves and I hate the typically American triteness of "badges" and "reputation". I don't go there any more.

I am surprised. I would have thought that SO would be the ideal place for a person like you Agraham i.e. I mean with all the knowledge you have, you would have been notorius on SO by now. :) ....although I prefer you being here.

Just my thoughts.

I think thats a good move Erel. It was worth the test but I know B4A will gain in popularity over time, its developing into a fantastic product. I think we are at the cutting edge of Mobile development and B4A gives a very gentle learning curve to people wanting to move into it.

Good idea because I use Basic4Android plus other tags. Next time I will use only the Basic4Android tag.

By the way, I found B4A by accident because of a reference to it on stackoverflow because I used it when I was in the trap of using Java and Eclipse. It's a good thing I'm quitting those after 2 months of trying to learn them.

I prefer the B4A Forum much over StackOverflow too. This forum is much more convenient, clearer. I like too that I can use Tapatalk with it.

The difference is the awards in here are for actually being of use to the community - most of the SO ones are just for "jumping through hoops" set by the site.

If I had my way agraham (and klaus) would be awarded "Superhero" status on here as they make so much difference to the forum.

I agree.

Erel knows, from past private correspondence, that I don't like medals either but apparently others value them whereas I do not.

I don't like them either, but it seems they are needed on that site to get access to additional site features.
