Android Question Bridge not connecting

Hello,

I start this as a new thread as the forum recommends it. I am aware that there are answers in the Tutorials & Examples section, but they date back to 2011 and I am not sure what to do with them.

Basically, I have installed the bridge on my phone, started the app and tried to connect to the IP dress given on the app in B4A.

The waiting for connections status stays on. Nothing else happens. No error message on bridge app or the IDE. I believe there is a log command but forgive me, first-time user, I don't even know how to use this (command line where?) or whether those comments from 2011 are still applicable. I would value your suggestions.

As an aside, what app would you recommend so that the phone screen is always on when I am working on B4A: like most of you I guess, I can't work having to constantly unlock the screen. I'm sure there is a recommended app for that short of setting the screen stay on setting manually to X minutes. Please let me know.

Thanks a lot.

I don't quite know how to answer that. The WI-FI comes from the one "router", for sure. But because my WI-FI signal is bad where my PC is, I cable it to the "router". So both my phone and PS are connected to the same network, but the PC is cabled rather than WI-FIed. Could that be the issue?

Do you PC have the same subnet?

For ex. Your PC has IP 192.168.1.15
Does b4a-Bridge show a similar IP? For ex. 192.168.1.37

Sorry. I responded but by return of email to support instead. The answer is:

No. Bridge has a 192...address. My PC has an 81.something address and an IPv4 Subnet address of 255.something

I suppose I need to get started without Bridge for now. What is the next best method? I think there is an emulator and a possible USB connection? What is the better recommendation for a newbie?

Thanks Erel and Manfred.

Thank you both. I'll give it a try tonight.

If you have any recommendations for an app or setting to keep the screen unlocked while in use with B4A, please let me know.

Thanks Manfred. The question was in my first message at the very top of this thread though. I thought that intermittent screen locing may interfere with connecting to bridge.

PC has an 81.something address

For sure not. What you mean is the IP Adress your router gets from the provider, here the local address is important (as you connect via WiFi via your router).

If you have changed the subnet mask or other network properties I assume you know what to do. Please check twice if any antivirus program/firewall blocks anything.

If you did NOT change a thing:

For WIN 8 or 10:

1. Klick on the notification
1.JPG

2. Right click on the Wifi tile -> Open Network

3. Scroll down a bit

2.JPG

This is the local address of your PC. The address shown in the B4A bridge will be exactly the same except the last 3 digits. That's it.

Thank you for the answer: the screenshots help a lot.

No, I did not change anything as I don't know what I'm doing. I don't think I can get to your results simply because my PC is cabled to the network (WI6FI does not work where I work....it does a couple of rooms way). I thought that did not matter because it's the "same network" but I think this is why I can't connect to bridge.

I will try the USD connection. As for Bridge, I will try it on a laptop somewhere else, as soon as I can: your explanation will be useful then.
