Android Question Change app launcher icon and title programmatically

Hello, how can I change the app icon and title in launcher programatically? I know it's possible from these articles I found

If it creates a shortcut then what would it do with the original icon?

probably nothing. It is still inside your apk/installation

The programmatical handling of shortcuts in Android is a well known, widely used but not officially supported Android feature. It seems to work on the default launcher

So i guess it does work only if your app is the default launcher.

That's what I mean, but I would like it if it replaced my existing app icon rather than create a separate shortcut. Maybe if I could hide the other one it would be better , otherwise there would be no point just to have 2 app shortcuts
