Android Question Dark theme without Appcompact or Material components

From this thread I understand you have to Add in the manifest as theme parent DayNight,
But am not using Appcompact or Material components.

What will be the workaround for using the dark theme without those components?

You are always using material components on Android 5+ as the default theme is material theme.

What exactly do you mean with dark theme? It should be dark theme by default.

Sorry meant Dark Mode.

But I understand now, the project I was updating is somewhat old. I will go over my manifest to make it current.
