Default View Size

Hello

How were the default sizes for buttons and edit text fields arrive at? They always appear on the large to me - larger than the same items in the contacts editor for example.

I could find nothing in the Android style guidelines to say what the recommended sizes are:
Android Design - Buttons
Android Design - Text Fields

I was just looking for some layout advice really!
