Designer Label issue

I am trying to go through the Beginner Guide, but have come across a problem straight away. :(

I have put the first label on the designer and changed the label text to 5, but the designer window isn't reflecting the change, it is showning the Name/Event name instead. I am sure I have seen the error reported somewhere else, but cannot remember where.

Please help me out with this very simple issue.

Thanks

The images in the Beginner's Guide show the Emulator or a device connected to the Designer. You are refering to the Abstract Designer which allows to position easily the different views but doesn't show the final image on a device screen.

Best regards.

After starting the emulator and connecting the designer, the labels appear in the emulator window.

Once I make amendments to the onscreen label control and click the Compile and run command, the emulator screen clears (shows the emulator screen), then the screen goes black, title shows the program name and no labels appear on the screen. The black background reacts to events (touch event etc..), but no labels appear on the screen.

Did you load the layout with activity.loadlayout() ?

I merely started the emulator, linked the designer to the emulator, made the changes in the designer and Compiled and run. I didn't place any code in the program, didn't know you had to.

Hey,

I been there too in the last year. I would, as you probably already started/did is read the guides and look to the forum where Erel and company along with many others have provides real examples. It is pretty easy once you get moving and using debug along with Log features to solve your code problems.

Then, it just get more complex as you get more knowledgeable. I have some running example if you wish but there are loads of them on here as well.
