I have a shared hosted website with php & MySQL (1&1 unlimited space & databases) for about 10€ a month. So I', able to use php & MySQL but may not install any other software (like a B4J program). What about you?

Root server = You have full access to it (run own programs like Java .jar's, etc)

I also have a shared hosted website.
Its on whois.com

Actually i have 2 a windows and a linux server.

I pay for each about 30$/year.

I would use only 1 but ftp upload via b4a is working for me only on the windows server and on the linux i have mysql and php. So i use both

I would love to use my rsp2 as a ftp server but dont know how to do that.

Amazon VPS server. About 1€/month (very low use)
It runs a B4J server program and hosts 2 webs that I only started to see how Wordpress works. www.rgbledpanels.com , www.appiotic.com

Thats very cheap! Incl. Support for mysql + php??

Btw. Your websites looks really great. Where can i learn how to make such websites?

The VPS is running Windows Server 2012 with an ellastic IP. I had to learn to how set it up, but was not so difficult asI thought at the beginning. The B4J uses a small sqlite DB. No idea about Mysql + php, I am quite a newbie on server issues.

The webs are just customized WordPress themes. My girlfriend made them for me, but she got tired of waiting for final content

Easy... May we help you?
I'll take the offer (and sorry to hijack a bit this thread)
Regarding PHP: Which is the minimum local set-up that I should use to start learning by practice (or trial and error)? Also, is there any way to "debug" php execution?

Note that there is another option missing: "Yes, at home / in the office (dynamic ip)". You can quite easily turn any old pc or raspberry pi to a server.

Until the day in which I will install a my B4J server on some VPS... my notebook holds many B4J server for tests (they are active only during the development, of course, but this is my choice, is what I need).

[Just to say: it's easy - and funny - to create web servers using B4J ]

Ops... and it's FREE !!! (amazing)

P.S. My B4J server ( + B4A client app) will be published HERE; on top, of course

Example: https://www.b4x.com/android/forum/t...r-b4j-server-over-the-internet.37201/#content

That would be an excellent alternative but unfortunately some ISPs block this feature . I tried lots of ways and also started a thread here but there is no way that you can access your home PC although duckdns got my IP .
It seems that ISP gives private IP .

I don't have a working website or server . All I have is many free hosted tests and Amazon EC2 free tier. I also tried interserver . No complete server or website just tests

Definition - What does Root Server mean?
A root server is part of the supporting infrastructure of the Internet, and facilitates Internet use by acting as the backbone of online access.

Root servers are an essential part of the domain name system (DNS). They publish root zone file contents, which are responsible for DNS functionality, to the Internet. DNS associates information with domain names, and a great deal of online activity makes use of it. Domain names are mapped to IP addresses through this process, for example.

A root server is often called a DNS root name server.

Do you think there is any workaround for such configuration ?
No. My ISP uses such configuration. It was solved once I've updated to a "business accout".

Definition - What does Root Server mean?
I think that KMatle is referring to a server with root access which means that you can install Java and run B4J servers on it. Note that root is not really needed. Any server with SSH access will work.

I have 2 home servers.
One being a simple core I3 with 4*3tb and 4*1tb hard drives in raid 5. Backups, videos and VM images running Windows server 2012.
The second is a Dell Poweredge SC1435 with 32gig of RAM, 2*4 core Opterons and mirrored Samsung 480 SSD's. This is my VM machine.

All where built out of spare parts, ebay buys, nothing was purchased new except the 4 3tb RED drives and the 2 Samsung 480gig SSD's.

I also have 2 purchased options. One a regular web site hosted on HostGator (NOT recommended) and a MySQL instance on another provider.
