I opened the ExoPlayer.xml and can not find the tags specified in the instructions from the geoffledak sites instructions.

You are confusing XML-Layouts and Library XML Definitions.
The ExoPlayer.xml is NOT relevant here. More it is the Style and Theme you are using.
