Android Question Firebase Notification

I am using Firebase to send notifications to mobile phones.
The notifications are received on the mobile phones.
However, I do not get the notification shown on the app icon (red dot with number)
If I send multiple notifications, I should get the notification shown on the app icon - and number increment with each notification

Reading the above post, it seems that this does not work on all phones :-(
