Spanish Formateando con richstring

No veo el error para que no se formatee el texto.

Dim richLINEA As RichString
dim strLINEA as string

strLINEA = "Prueba"
richLINEA.Initialize("{C}" & strLINEA & "{C}")
richLINEA.color2(Colors.Cyan, "{C}")

lbl1.Text=richLINEA  'lbl1 es un label

Haciendo pruebas he descubierto algo curioso.

El formateo me funciona si el label está declarado en la misma función que la variable richstring.

Si el label lo tengo declarado y/o inicializado en otra parte del programa el formateo no tiene lugar.
