Free Upgrades Time Period

As most of you know, I absolutely love B4X and all its possibilities. Nevertheless, I'd like to voice my opinion on this matter.

I disagree with the concept of having a "free upgrades time period". One has to be really lucky in order to see new significant upgrades released within that time period.

I, for example, just missed the chance to upgrade B4A to v6.50 for a merely 13 days.

So again, I'd like to ask, wouldn't it be a lot more fair to replace the "time period" with a given number of upgrades?

For example:

Standard License - 2 minor upgrades or 1 major upgrade (user's choice).
Enterprise License - 4 minor upgrades or 2 major upgrades (user's choice).

6.30 --> 6.50 counts as minor
6.50 --> 7.00 counts as major

I don't think it would make anything worse in terms of revenue/business, but it would almost certainly make developer happier.

Existing developers can upgrade to the enterprise version for $69. The enterprise version includes two years of free upgrades.
This means that for $35 per year you can always download the latest version. I think that this is a fair price. I don't see any reason to make this more complicated.

Also note that there is no difference between major and minor updates. All updates are considered major updates except of bug fixes versions (3.01 for example) which are sent to all developers who were eligible for the previous version.

I find the current way OK. Personally I would offer only Enterprise License maintaining the discounted upgrade price when it falls due.

I use b4a for maybe 3 years and i think my first version was 2.x (i cant remember) and as far as i remember i reveived maybe 8-10 upgrades in this 3 years so i guess i am very lucky

I recommend the enterprise license and after its over erel send you a very attractive renew offer.

I always update my license immidiatley when it has expired because it is worth for me every penny and also to support anywhere software. But i need to mention that my b4x income that i did in this 3 years can already cover a life license (and even more)
So erel maybe put a unlimited upgrades package for 499$ ??

Not needed. Once you renew ten times for the Enterprise version (20years of loyalty) you are eligible for Anywhere Software shares..eheh

BTW, $35/year is near to nothing.
Consider that often a donation is about $10 or, if you prefer, that $35/yr buys you B4R and B4J along with the paid product.. all that with an unparalleled support!

Unlucky for myself also ... missed by about 4 days .... dohhhh !!

But I am OK with current setup and the discount pricing is generous.
I will be renewing as soon as I'm home.

I'm just shocked at how quickly the 2 years flys by.
But time does that when you are having fun. !

Please note that, I'm not criticizing the prices, the products or the support. Those are all 5-star, way above many solutions out there.

All I was suggesting was to replace the fixed "time period" with an x number of updates.

Given the community feedback, I understand that everyone's happy with the current model, so I won't be touching this subject again.

I'm totally sure everyone here knew there was no hint of criticism in you post ... just throwing out there your thoughts on an alternative members plan / model.

The problem, is that one could complain that @Erel would release too many updates / upgrades in order to expire the licenses faster . Maybe that person would not be happy with the updates / upgrades he received and find the money not worth it ..etc..
At least with the current system, you can rest assured that any bug will be fixed within your 2 years period.

I saw this problem with Patreon, where people pay for each video released by an artist. Some people find the quality dropping, as some artists try to produce more videos, faster, to earn more money. The monthly support payment method is much better for that, because the artists take their time to produce good quality video, but still maintain a release cycle to keep supported happy.

@wonder: I see your suggestion will make b4x more expensive.
How about if 2 major upgrades in the first 6 months? It happened before.
Just yesterday I made a very simple app for a customer for $150 (photo album) not to mention it was an example on this forum and I only changed the user interface.
