Is there a way to use maps for GPS positioning on an Iphone in an area with no cell service?

Google Maps will generally not work without an internet connection. If the relevant area is available in the cache then it might work.

Another option is to open Google Maps app. The app allows the user to download specific areas and later use them offline.
