Android Question how to change backgound color

Curiously, I just half-answered that in another thread:

Note that you can set/change that property from within Designer too, as well as from within your program.

And the .Color property changes the background color.

But some views/widgets have more complicated/flexible background possibilities, so just to be sure:

how to change background color... of what?
