Android Question How to exit a multi-line edittext field?

I have searched every which way I can think of and cannot find an answer to this. The only way I can seem to get out of the text field is to touch the back key. I have seen many threads about the "force done" which does nothing on a multi-line text field. I have seen threads on custom keyboards which seems extreme.

I see an event for "Enter pressed" but that would not help if you want the ability to do paragraphs.

Is this just they way Android works and we just live with it?

You must know at what the keyboard should be closed.
E.g. Page click or on a button click
