How to get rid of title

I have downloaded several tutorials and all of them display a line at the top of the screen with the word "Activity". I have tried turning off the activity title in the layout file but it still shows up.

What am I missing?

In the IDE in the menu uncheck : Project / Activity Properties / Include Tiltle.
