I have created an app for me to keep track of medications. When they are due to be taken I have a sticky service that sends me a notification. I click it to take the activity so I can tell it I've got then the service doesn't not it again. I create an another for the next due.
I love the sticky because when I'm running my taxi app it still works when the meds app isn't on foremany.
