Hi, pre-purchase question; can basic4ppc interface with the barcode scanner on a Symbol PPT8846?

Probably yes. You can try it with the trial version.

Most barcodes send the reading as a keyboard input.

Not convinced; the scan buttons only work when there is an application that is barcode aware running, and the demo app (from Symbol) has every detail of the barcode available (eg symbology), so I'm pretty convinced the reading is done through an API.

You should check whether it supports "keyboard wedge" mode.

There is a keyboard wedge application, but that's just plain ugly.

I've found an example of using a Symbol provided DLL file; can Basic4PPC link into such a DLL? If so, then I'm sold and thats what I'll do.

Only with a wrapper library. Not directly.
