Had an interesting phone call from Google AdMob team yesterday.
First they asked me by email if I'm interested in a beta project they want to do with me. First I thought it was such a spam mail you often get to improve your rating in the PlayStore but the strange thing was that the mail came from a google.com address.
I replied that this must be a mistake because I'm just a hobby programmer with a simple weather app in the PlayStore. Their answer was that they often work with developers like me and they asked if they can call me. So I gave them my phone number and a short time later they really called me.
First we talked about my app and yes, they really had a closer look at the app. Then we looked at my AdMob settings and they told me some tips how to improve my earnings. They suggested me to use interstitial ads when leaving the app. Not always but every or every second day one full screen ad.
And then they offered me that they want to suggest my app for a new beta feature.
Overall I was surprised and impressed that Google or at least the AdMob team support so small developers like me and take some time to help developers to find optimal settings for their ads.
If I understood correctly, they pick every month about 100 apps and try to help their developers to optimize the AdMob revenue for 30 days. Some of these apps will be suggested for a beta feature.
I will see how this whole story develops.
