Bill Gets has gone over to the dark side? Is that even possible?

A friend of mine got himself a free Windows phone last year when his iPhone died. The Windows phone works OK but of course not much software to run on it. Some company had a contest where the first prize was a Windows phone. The 2nd prize was 2 Windows phones. Seriously though, companies are literally giving these phones away like they were door prizes. I expect to see them in cereal boxes pretty soon.

The Windows Phone has a niche market, the Corporate Market, the integration of Skype for business and Office 365 makes it a great tool, no need to carry your laptop (or a Surface) with you while roaming around the company campus.

Note that Windows 10 now can run Linux apps natively, no need for a VM (Check: Control Panel -> Programs and Features -> Turn Windows features on or off) you will see "Windows subsystem for Linux (Beta)").

Speaking of "Dark Side" Linux has also stepped into the dark side with "PowerShell for Linux".

Unfortunately last year Microsoft dropped Skype for all of their Windows phones except Windows 10. Hey, I told you Bill Gates is evil and bent on world domination.

It is running the Bash Shell. This unfortunately is only for command line Linux. It doesn't support graphics or server software and is pretty limited if you are a Linux user. (What do you expect from a Grinch?) But it does let Windows users dip their toe into the Linux world and experience a real operating system.

Be aware that you have Skype and Skype for Business, two different animals.

Linux on Win 10 is targeting developers (at least for now) let's see what happens in the future, even though you can install a GUI version of Linux on Win 10 but it's more of a hack at least for now.
