Share My Creation I've published my first widget on Google Play

24th Century StarDate weather widget

Hello all,
First of all, I would like to thank the whole community for the help I received while creating this widget and my previous tablet only application.

This is my first publication on Google Play. There is a Free cut down version and a Paid full version of my widget.

Below is the link to the free version with only 2 widget layouts. The paid version has 12 layouts(I'll add more in the future).

LINK REMOVED

Please feel free to download and install the widget on your devices. Please leave positive RATINGS & REVIEWS for me on Google Play as I need it.

Please please please let me know what you think of my StarDate weather widget...

I thank you all in advance.

Peter

Nice looking app!!!

One thing, I would recommend you use the phone lib to open the browser, your app displays an error if the device is running Jelly Bean and you tap on the "tap here to learn more about Star Dates" button, on that version, the browser has been replaced by Chrome so your intent doesn't work.

Update app

Hello NJDude,
Thank you for testing my widget. I've now updated both Free and Paid versions with the 'Phone Library' on the Google Play.

It will take a couple of hours for Google to update them on Play. I will check it on my Nexus 7 later on tonight when I get back home.

P.S. Nice Nexus 7 read-up by the way, both pluses and minuses.

Thank you

Good job, I really like clear designs without much overlaying images and other stuff.

To be honest, in my opinion, remove the following line from your description "this is the first widget from me...". If you want people to take you seriously, do not put such lines in the description. At least, this is what I think, it's just a suggestion to you.

Rectified text

Now I've read it again, you are correct. Anyway, that's now been rectified. Google should update it in an hour or so...

Thank you

App fonts

is the Font choice for the rest- Looks more DS9 than LCARS.

I'm using three custom fonts at the moment.

1. Klingon - Next generation
2. Federation - DS9
3. Federation - Next generation

The fonts are not selectable at the moment, but I'm thinking about making them selectable on a per layout basis.

I'm seriously taking in all the feedback that I receive from the community.

Thank you

Hello Peter,

Thanks a lot for your contribution.

I have never been a fan of wallpapers, fonts and widgets,
but this is a lovely one.

The layout looks well positioned and sized on a 960x 640
scale=2 screen. TTS is working well, too.

The only issue I noticed ad-hoc is that it takes a few
minutes until the weather information is updated. Once
done, the data shows correct.

This link here provides weather data in XML and returns
the location nearest to the geo coordiates in the URL string:
http://ws.geonames.org/findNearByWeatherXML?lat=52&lng=0
This may save you the expense of the vast location database.

For a future update, I recommend a choice between 12 and 24 hour
clock formats and a layout with an illustration from the good,
old TOS. For those back on Earth, sidereal time and/or Julian date
might be a welcome alternative to the 24th. century star date.

Long ago, I put together an app around the Enterprise bridge,
also using GPS, TTS and other stuff that could fit in, however,
I gave it up because I wasn't really sure about copyrights.

Hello Alfcen,
The database is only there for people who do not have Google location services enabled. If Google location services is enabled, the widget completely ignores the Country/City settings.

The weather is updated every 15 minutes on the widget. Retrieving the weather xml and image files takes up about 2.5k. Times 2.5k by 4 x 24 x 30 give you a data usage of 7.2mb per month on average. I'm trying to keep end user data usage down to a minimum. Updating every 30 minutes gives the end user a data usage of 3.6mb per month.

I'm still looking into copyright at the moment, but so far so good...

Thank you for your feedback, I've taken it all on board and will make improvements 100%

Another update

Hello everybody,
Just to let you know.
My downloads and active users is better than I expected it to be.

I've now updated the paid version of the widget with the following...

  1. 1 x new layout
  2. User selectable 12/24 hours clock readout
  3. User selectable weather update timing
  4. 2 layouts have battery power reading text which changes colour the lower the battery gets
  5. Added feature that turns battery power reading text green while charging device(V1.1.0 and above)
  6. Fixed issue with people not selecting city after selecting country
  7. Updated downloading of weather to try to stop weather service having a fit
  8. Fixed issue with main weather images and temperature not always updating

Thank you for testing this app/widget for me. Please leave positive RATINGS & REVIEWS for me on Google Play.
