Lost 3D for Views

Using B4A 1.6 update (1st and 2nd), I ran an app on the Toshiba Thrive (10.1" tablet) via both the Bridge and an installed APK. In both cases, the views in my app had lost their 3D effects. I also loaded the layout to the device from Designer with the same result. I get the 3D in the 10.1" emulator. I have searched the Thrive for any related settings and didn't find any.

I just got the Thrive, so I don't know if this would have happened with B4A 1.5.

Any ideas? (Sorry for the crappy screen shot. The Thrive doesn't have that capability built in.)

Can't help you with your problem but I'm thinking of buying a Thrive what do you think of it ?

Note that the Bridge doesn't play any role in running programs. It is only responsible for transferring the APK file to the device and launching the installer.

This is probably related to the device theme. Have you tried other programs? They will probably also look like this.

Can't help you with your problem but I'm thinking of buying a Thrive what do you think of it ?

What attracted me to the Thrive were the full-sized ports (USB, SD, HDMI). I bought a 320GB portable (USB-powered) Toshiba hard drive ($35) and it works fine on the Thrive, as does the full-sized 32GB SD card ($50). You can use up to a 128GB SD card on it.

Although I like the size (7") of my Archos 70, and it has a 250GB HDD built in, which is nice for holding a lot of music and video files, it doesn't have a rear camera nor GPS, both of which the Thrive has. Plus the Thrive runs Android 3.1 and the A70 is limited to 2.2.

I've read comments about the Thrive's display not being as bright as some others, but it's plenty bright for me -- brighter than the Archos. On battery, I'll be using it dimmed anyway. Because of the full-sized ports, it is a little thicker and heavier than other 10" tablets, but we are talking about fractions of an inch and ounces here; doesn't bother me. You want something light and easy to carry, you get a 7" tablet, not a 10".

Do you mean the checkboxes? This is the normal looking of checkboxes in Android 2.3/3.1. Google reduced the 3D look to a minimum since Android 2.3.

Yeah, the checkboxes and the buttons and spinners no longer have the shading on them. Below is how the layout looks in the emulator (and on my Archos 70, which is Android 2.2). The "new, improved" look is terrible, IMO. Wonder why they did that? Well, at least I know that everyone else is in the same boat. Thanks.

BTW, another problem is that when I display the configuration panel shown in these screen shots, the focus goes to a text box (even though I try to put it elsewhere) and then the virtual keyboard comes up. This doesn't happen on my Archos running 2.2, so I assume this is another "feature" of 2.3/3.1?

I'm going to try the new HideKeyboard command and see if that works.

Yep, the HideKeyboard command took care of the problem.
