I read about the safety portals being replaced by "threat aware camera systems" and thought, wow!!! That's cool...
We are getting closer and closer to the "reality" in the film "public enemy"

In my opinion everyone that is connected to any social media like facebook, instagram,... has no freedom anyway. Those companies knows a lot about you even your android phone is already a problem.

Recently i start getting from google notifications about shops near to my location as soon as my gps is on so they know a lot about us. If you pay with credit cards they know more then you think.
What you eat, where u buy cloth, what movies you like (when you go to the cinema,..) so google is the biggest threat for our freedom but such technology is developed to protect to us. I do agree that it can be used to harm us but it is ment to protect us.

I agree with @An Schi although at the same time I find the technology behind such systems interesting and fascinating.
+1
On the other side, as Ilan says, we could think that why being bothered about it when our position and messaging are (or can be) already tracked and we have silently accepted it.

About other already-present uses, image processing is not only being used to process visible light camera images, but also any other kind of synthetic images got from satellite (earth imaging by thermal cams or radioFrequency bands that can give us information on temperature, sea salinity, presence of contaminants in air), medicine and biology.. In fact any data acquisition system (any kind of RF, sound echo or any sensor data acquisition) that can then be mapped to a 2D or 3D space.

That's true but people can choose wether to be part in these social media networks or not; goverments and/or supra organization (ex: Google) often (always ?) make bad use with collected info: do you think that they won't misuse this reconogzietd collected info?
I like all technology environment and advances but sometimes also frighten me all of the misuse that they can do with all the collected info.

True, I haven't disabled any privacy settings on my phone, so I constantly get notifications when I go anywhere offering me more information or asking me to add details about it on Google maps, I can also go on Google maps and see everywhere I've been and when for the last several years. It's scary how much they know, but I'm not a criminal so it doesn't really bother me.

Here in France there was this TV series... "Person of interest"... I guess over the Atlantic too...
Automatic Visual Recognition is a double edge knife... But one side cutting edge is more sharp than others...
I mean, I rather get a bunch of unwanted adverts, like in "minority report" with the holographic publicity screen, knowing that that same technology has helped trapping a serial killer on the run...
