Problem with designer

I seem to be doing something wrong. I start a project, start an emulator, start the designer, wait for the emulator to load and unlock the screen, then click "connect". It always tells me that there is no device open and tries to get me to open one.

I thought it might have been my Comodo Firewall, but I have given everything full permission with no result.

I am running Win 7 64 bit, Comodo Firewall, MSE.

any thoughts?
