Progressbar in Notification

Is it possible to embed a progressbar in the notification area?
There is some discussion about using RemoteViews but I could not really understand. Sounds like a hard thing to do.
Any ideaS?

A (very tiny) Progressbar is easy to realize by changing the Notification Icon. An Example for that is the Battery Indicator.
