iOS Question Publishing - confusion over what "archive" is uploaded to iTunes Connect

I'm about to attempt to publish my first app and have been following the directions in this thread:
https://www.b4x.com/android/forum/threads/publishing-your-app-to-the-app-store.57528/

In post #1 of the above thread the statement is made (my emphasis in red):

When you follow the second thread you get shown the following image which says to upload the archive file:

If I look at the Archive.zip I have generated I find it contains an *.ipa file and a file called dsym.zip which is of a similar size to the *.ipa.

A google on "ipa apple", the Wikipedia hit reveals "An .ipa file is an iOS application archive file which stores an iOS app" - i.e. it is an "archive" too.

So what do I upload to iTunes Connect:
  • the Archive.zip
  • the *.ipa extracted from the Archive.zip
I assume it is Archive.zip?

-------------------------------------------

EDIT - if I could work out how to delete this thread I would.

I tried uploading the Archive.zip and it worked - it looks like the [iTunes Connect Uploader] tool actually unpacks the *.ipa file from the Archive.zip and uploads that - another wrinkle.

Erel,

In hindsight it is a pretty trivial inconsistency - and I would have deleted the thread when I worked out what was going on - if I knew how.

But it is a bit indicative of the problems associated with "crowd sourced documentation" (particularly for novices like myself) - you read everything assuming it is half baked - does it means this or ???

Regards...

BTW - is there a way for a thread's author to delete it?

No need to delete this thread. There is important information in this thread which will help others.

crowd sourced documentation" (particularly for novices like myself)

The problem here is not really related to crowd sourced documentation. I wrote the two posts you mentioned.

The first one was written before the hosted builder solution was available. Later when it was added I've added a message about it at the end of the tutorial: https://www.b4x.com/android/forum/threads/publishing-your-app-to-the-app-store.57528/ (I've now marked it as bold to make it more clear).

Erel,

My comment about "crowd sourced documentation" was a general one about how it conditions a (particularly novice) reader to over-question everything - I generally find yours the most lucid.

Now that I have done the exercise, pointing at Archive.zip in the [iTunes Connect Uploader] tool makes perfect sense - it is shielding me from having to strip out the *.ipa file.

But before the exercise...

Regards...

BTW - just for future reference - is there a way to delete a post?
