Hello,
Starting November 2018, updates to existing applications must target API level 26 or higher.

that means you can keep some apps as it is and the next update must target API26+ ?
or
if you didn't update this apps before November will be suspended ?

I have asked this same question quite a few times over the past year.

The answer I always get is that currently existing apps on Google Play will not be affected by the November requirement for API level 26 or higher.

However, Updates (new APK uploads) to existing apps must target API 26 or higher beginning November 1.

I sure hope this information is correct. I plan to leave all current apps as is, with no updates. I hope they are not suspended.

Barry.

Every year target API will be increased by one (API 27 in the middle of next year for new apps).
If you plan to (ever) update your app, is better to do it now.

I'm already updating my apps but for some apps i don't want to update them now so I'm wondering if they will be suspended or i just can update them later

They will not remove app with API < 26, But who knows what the future holds.

Unfortunately, in my opinion, Android is dying. I will not be forced into an endless upgrade cycle to support the latest and greatest nonsense.

I will not buy new devices pushing $1000 USD that have no real advantages.

I think Android peaked around version 6.0 and the hardware peaked around 2015. I see many minuses and no real pluses in the latest software and hardware.

I actually think this is an attempt to reinvigorate new hardware purchases by forcing support for unnecessary features.

I see many people going back to flip phones because they address the problem at hand without being excuses for wasting enormous amounts of time.

Barry.

C'mon. Only slight changes going to 26+. Android is not dying due to updates :D By the way my Huawei Mate 10 "lite" was about 330€. I have it for almost 2 years now and it's still super fast and has no issues. Will keep it the next years (8 core + 4 GB + 64 GB)

I am with @canalrun. Android's alphabet is running short on remaining letters :)
With the advent of 5G and important advancements in AI, I won't be surprised if in 5/7 years of so from today we all will hold a device (no sense to call it a phone anymore) that is constantly linked to a data center (DC) where an AI will satisfy any request. What today we call programs will be features of the DC. As simple end-points our role will be that of posing questions and receiving answers. Imagine Siri at the nth power. You pose a question like "how do I reach my pub?" and the AI (obviously knowing who you are, where you are and which are your preferences) will drive you to the destination either as a map sent to your device, a vocal list of indications (like "ok, now turn left") and so on.
I may be wrong, but if that will happen I won't be surprised. BTW, personally I will try to avoid such devices..I value most Freedom.

ps:sorry to be off-topic
