Android Question ranking, scores etc

Hello,

ok, I know I could've posted this in either the B4A or B4i forum but since things are starting to overlap I put it here.

What's a good way to keep track of a game ranking or score?

I know there is google play service but then you pull it apart from the IOS scorings if you want a global OS independent ranking.

I could just set up my own on a webserver but then I have the issue that I don't know which user is playing unless they need to sign up in some way or give private stuff away like an email adrress.

I don't know if you can read out some device specific id but that limits to that device only instead of a user with possible multi devices.

Anyone here who tackled this who can share some ideas?

Moved to the B4A questions forum (otherwise this thread will never be indexed).

Check CloudKVS. It is simple to configure and it will allow you to easily synchronize the client data between different devices. You will need some user id if you want to allow the user to use multiple devices.

Google Play Game Services are not restricted to Android:

...but there's no library available for B4i.

Note that these services have a REST API so it should be possible to use them via the web browser:

I noticed that, @Informatix.

But I wonder how many apple fanboys have a google play account aswell. Probably not much.
And forcing people to use another account just for scoring reason is kind of overkill.

An option would be just entering an email address (valid or not doesn't matter) encrypt it and use that to send/retrieve scores.

When they use another device they only need to enter the same email adress again to retrieve or update score data.

Not 100% safe but if someone uses someone else's email address he helps that other person so that ain't bad either
