Hi guys....

I had my homebrewed server going with a raspi 2 and a Samsung Evo 8GB class 10 SD that I had rolling about in a digital camera...
After about 2 months using it no issues, one fine day (actually it was night) it just crashed...

So I figured, maybe my evo SD was a bit beat up by the camera.. and today I boyght a brand new 16gb evo class10 SD... into which I will be installing jesse lite...
my plan is to leave only the bootloader on the SD and get all system root and boot into the HDD...
What should be the life span expectancy for such a combo?

What would you guys recommend?

I have one RB with a hd. Seems that there's not activity on the sd card after the bootloader has been started. The SD card should work several years with that combination. SD cards last a long time if you "just write" to it (photos) or just read from it. It get's damaged if there is a lot of "mixed" traffic "r/w".

In my Canon I use the same 2 cards for years now. No problem.

I would buy very cheap cards (just for the bootloader). Should last years. And then (perhaps) a RB 4 is available which can finally boot from any device.

yes but it seems that the Raspian does some kind of "caching" into the SD and it seems to be a common issue having SDCards that go corrupt...

Anyway, this weekend will re-install my "server" and see how that goes
