B4J Question Raspberry Pi and LED signs

Hello,
My question is kind of general. I want to try writing a program that controls LEDs matrix displays, the ones that have the old retro feel. Is that possible with B4J? I have a lot of Basic experience, but I don't have the knowledge to do wrappers or anything like that. I would be using the core language only.
I hope it is not bad to post external links. As an example I found this one but is for an Arduino board:

Or do you guys know of an LED display that would be easier to program?

Note that you can use B4R with an Arduino board for this.

The jPi4J library allows you to work with the pins. I'm not sure whether it is enough in order to control a LED matrix.

I had not realized there was a B4R product! That is great news to me.
In theory... since I don't much about this yet but I am learning, and I definitely don't know anything about Arduino yet.
Is it possible to control the Arduino from a B4J program on a Raspberry Pi?
I am trying to make a very portable LED sign solution without having to use a Windows computer.
