Run 1.9 separate from 1.8

I am about to buy the 2 year licence and I am wondering can I install 1.9 separate from my 1.8 installation? If I can't then I don't want 1.9 because everything is working fine on 1.8. I've seen posts with all sorts of problems with 1.9

Just install it on a different directory, and don't forget to copy your licence.

So far, no issues with 1.9 myself.

Most of these posts are not really related to v1.9.
There are no (known) new issues in v1.9 related to existing features.
