ScanWedge-Exclude characters?

I have a client who had been using a corded Symbol scanner, but recently upgraded to a Symbol MC3090. Some of his printed barcodes are prefixed with a % sign. On the old corded scanner, he set up a rule to skip the % if it was found as the first character. Now the % sign is showing up when scanning the barcode on the MC3090. I can't figure out what to do in ScanWedge to tell it to skip the % sign if it's found as the first character. Is this possible to do? Thanks for the help.
