Android Question SDK manager: Alpha versions?

Today I saw that the SDK manager offers alpha versions to download (here: com.android.support:instantideo (Google Maven)). I don't use it but I never download alpha versions as they are not stable. Of course you can de-select it but as we all know usually we "just download" all the updates.

I assume the previous version of xxxx is replaced by this new alpha version which may cause problems. Is there a way just to download release candidates or am I wrong here?

Alpha and beta versions will only be installed if there isn't any stable version available or if you are running a modified version of Sdk Manager with RemoteItems.INCLUDE_BETA set to True.

I don't think that any of the recommended items will appear with a non-stable version and you are most probably only using recommended items during compilation.
