Android Question select item of spinner

how do I set an item in the spinner via code? example: I want to select an element by position or by text.

Spinner1.SelectedIndex = Position.
SelectedItem is read only.

I take this opportunity to ask you a question on the spinner: is there a way to set the spinner to enter search characters (as in the windows world) or you can just choose the items on the list?

You can only select items.
