set EditText bacground color in designer

Is there a way to set an edittext background color in the designer? If not, can you post a sample of setting the background color in code? Thanks,

EditText.Colour = .........

I do not think it is available in designer.

This will not work as expected. EditText background is a complex drawable. When you set the Color property it will replace the existing background with a solid color rectangle.
