Android Question testing FTP connections on a simulator

Is there any problem testing an ftp connection on a simulator? I can't seem to get a connection and I dont know whether it's because I am doing something wrong in code or whether I just need to use an actual device. If anybody has done an FTP connection on a simulator, I will then post my code and see what I am doing wrong.

Without seeing your code we just can guess what you did and how.
You need to have access to an ftp-server to test. there is no ftpserver running on the android emulator.

I meant connecting to an outside FTP server that I have access to. I changed into passive mode and it started to work, would you happen to know why that would make a difference?

You should use passive mode. It will work better on the device as well.

Active mode requires the firewall to understand the FTP protocol and allow the incoming connection.
