What do you think Erel to turn this thread to a "Tool recommendation" thread where people can post what kind of tools they use and the advantages and disadvantages of that tool. then it could be a sticky thread in the chit-chat section and people will easily find it. if you agree if have some awesome tools i use and really recommend for any dev to use but it is not worth opening a new thread about that.
Please post any recommendation you have in this thread. With the exception of Notepad++ which is really on a different level, tools come and go and it is good to remind us all about useful tools from time to time.
Use: Image Editor Price: Free Compatible: Windows, Mac OS, Linux Website: https://www.gimp.org/
Gimp is a must for every developer. It has many features like layers, brushes, and much more. I would say it is the best Image editor tool after PS and it is 100% for free.
If you are a game maker or need an icon for your App GIMP is the tool you should use.
This is not a tool but a Website. Every Developer should know it. The idea is to offer a big bundle of software/books/games for a very low price that you donate for charity.
you can find bundles that are 1000's of $ worth for about 25$.
The Bundles change from time to time but there are always relevant stuff for developers. I purchased many software, assets from there for a very low price.
Our Bundles are limited-time collections of games, books, software, and more. Pay what you want and choose where your money goes, including to charity.
Use: Sprite sheet generator (games) Price: 59$ Compatible: Windows, Mac OS, Linux Website: https://brashmonkey.com/
If you into game making you must know Spriter. it is an awesome tool to create animation for your game. you give bones to your sprite and can move to create a sprite sheet like this. it is very powerful. it is a little bit expensive but it is a very good tool for game making.
Use: SQL (crud operations) Price: Free Compatible: Windows (not sure if it runs also on other OS) Website: https://www.heidisql.com/
A good friend in this forum recommended HeidiSQL to me and i really like it. it is very fast and easy to use. you can create DB, read, write and many other operations.
It is Free and a very good tool to manage your SQL dbs.
JD_GUI Java Decompiler
I use this a LOT to poke around jars, particularly B4A core.jar and B4AShared.jar to see how things are implemented and fit together. http://java-decompiler.github.io/
JADX Java Decompiler
JADX is occasionally useful as it can decompile apks, aars and other Android files. I use the jadx-gui-1.3.3-1-no-jre-win.exe version. Get it by clicking on Releases on the right of the home page.
I have used this as my image viewer for as long as I can remember. It suits the way I organise my pictures and has some pretty good image editing and manipulation capabilities. Although I also keep paint.net on my computers I haven't needed to use it for a long time now. I also use it as a screenshot tool which it also does well.
There used to be an Android app that had a similar tree of folders interface that I liked but it got bought out by a Chineses malware distributor so I now use CX File Explorer on Android which as well as being a good image viewer with a UI that I like is also a good file explorer! It's free with no ads - nothing with ads goes on my phones.

Apart from the ShareX, one tool I use to pick colour anywhere on my PC is Just Color Picture. It's very Simple to Use and portable, gets the job done anytime.
Lunacy by Icons8 is free graphic design software for Windows, macOS, Linux. Open, edit sketch files with ease. Built-in vector, photos, UI kits, and more.
This isn't really a tutorial but rather a recommendation for a diff tool. Sometimes you need to compare files, or even directories, and doing it manually is just too painful and difficult. I've used Meld many times over the years (mostly on Linux though), and can really recommend it. Meld can...
