Android Question Updating part of my APK not the whole APK

So I have an APK that is about 8mb, once someone has downloaded my APK I would like to send them updates. Currently I have to send them a whole new APK, is there an efficient way of sending people updates? for example my project is split into various modules and I only need to send them one of the updated modules?

Are you distributing your app on Google Play?

Note that 8mb is not so much. Not sure that it is worth trying to split it.

I'm not distributing on Google Play, My users get my application provided to them by me and when I have an update I put it on my server and they can press an update button on the application which pulls in the whole new APK. 8mb is only small by today's standards BUT the APK is in constant growth and some of the users are overseas with poor internet connectivity. So I was just thinking of the future really.. ?

Move the large assets files to a separate zip file.

When your program starts, check whether these files are already available in the external storage. If not, download the zip file and extract it.
