Android Question Virtual chat application

Hi all,
I am interested in making a virtual AI chat app. Similar to like the bots feature in Skype and Cleverbot. Is it possible to do it? Any ideas how i can get started?

I would start much simpler:
Make a 'magic 8 ball' app. It has an edittext in which you write a question. When clicking the 'ask' button it will answer randomly with yes, no or maybe. From there you can go on and make it more complex.
