Or at least a UPS on each computer like we must have. Even though we are in the UK we live in the country and our electricity comes for miles via overhead lines on wooden poles. It just needs a tree shedding branches in the wind or a cow rubbing an itch on a rotten pole to take our supply out.

We get several failures a year still - though as it has got a bit better in the last few years I guess they are running out of rotten poles by now.

i have some friends on ZA and this is quite a common issue, a diesel generator is a life saver and much cheaper on the short run. (of course solar is better but the investment is at least quadruple)

This year on winter was my first load Shedding of my life here in Mexico, and it feels horrible. fortunately weather is mild even on winter so it was not life threatening.

Actually - the other day - a friend's sector was in darkland from 19h00 to 07h00 next morning.......

Tonight, they cut us off at 1900 - then - must have had a brain-something-or-other (we tend to be four-lettered about The Utility) and switched it back on at 19h30......

GO BLOODY FIGURE . . . . . .

When it originally started, most companies bought huge generators to deal with the issue, these of course are expensive. For households there are smaller one, but as you know, the more its in demand the up prices tend to go. Its something one has to invest on over time but preferably one that would be considered "thee" generator to last more than 5 years or so with minimal maintenance.

At the village (rural areas) I'm considering house and home that works with propane e.g. geysers for example.

I doubt it'll really solve your problem, but eventually you'll be ready to compete for the next Olympic Games..

I read somewhere that it produced about 0.11 kWh exercizing it for an hour (i.e. less than an hour for an household needing 3kWh) and was costing about $200.

D'think? We call it incompetence - except at gouging the captured customers by over charging for a s-----t service. They don't read meters in rural area meaning they can bilk us with made up consumption figures - they blew up a brand new megawatt size powerstation for the second time last week.

Jawbreaking stuff.

Solar geyser - propane stove - all-LED lighting - reduced consumption from ESKOMMMMM eskom bill went UP - WTHell. B4x intermittent as a result - Pissed.

Believe it or not - that has been considered - won the commonwealth games bid but it had to be moved - how the heck did the World Cup come here? Just after that loadshedding was in the womb -
