I think that it will not work with Bitcoin. It will work with any of the compatible blockchains such as polygon.

Are wallets generated locally? Or are they checked on the network to avoid having duplicate wallets?

Locally of course. There is no need to check for duplicates. There are higher chances that the sun will not rise at the morning than that there will be a duplicate key.
