Hi there....

It has nothing to do with B4X.. actually it is a system <-> fonts problem <-> may be printer form .... that can't find a solution for 2 days now...

Well I ve bought a Brother HL-1110 (a cheap laser printer)...

And I ve noticed a change at my prints after installing the driver (but it hasn't to do with printing only but with fonts)...

and specifically the Font using at my APP (an old vb6 app created) --> Courier New (size 8)

And I am saying that because and at the printing to pdf (with free bullzip pdf printer) I am getting wrong results like at my printer... and all that after installing driver !!! (!@#!@#!@#)

Tried to replace my "Courier New" font (with bootable drive - because they are system fonts)... replaced but the same...

Also tried from another pc - all working super good as working before... but in this specific Windows PC (windows 7 with brother printer installed)

Any idea ?

Clutching at straws here but have you checked the string for characters that shouldn't be there?

@stevel05 Yes, ofcourse.... it is an app using for decades

There is something to do with font height and width spacing - at my app/software didnt change anything as i said... the same app running throught network (smb) at other pc works perfect....

mixxed layers opacity (a print from good working pc and a print from not working good)

They are working from the same folder-same exe-different PC...

I am afraid i will need reinstall windows... :-( but why... isn't there a way to check or fix the font ? or a registry trick ?

Very strange, I think I would try updating anything else I could think of before reinstalling windows. Graphics driver perhaps?

It is an old windows system 7 32bit (updates disabled) for Invoicing only...

I think that it has to do with Font Kerning --- but can't find a registry or something for fixxing or changing to see what happens...

It looks like a font scaling problem. Note how the left hand sides correlate but as the print progresses across to the right the discrepancy grows. It looks like the printer thinks the font is a fraction larger than it should be - like Courier 8.1 instead of 8.

A few more thoughts on this (that you may have done already):
- you could search the registry for "printer" to maybe find some registry setting...
- you could do a system recovery to the point just before the installation of the printer driver...
- if you have a backup from windows you could use that...

For the History:

I ve spent 2 hours installing a new pc with windows 10 (i wanted an update too - but wasn't the day)... install again the brother driver... and the SAME... :-(
Well i ve then install a samsung network printer... and was printing ok to it and at the pdf... so....

I ve target to brother driver problem HL-1110... found HL-1112 was the same machine... but the same problem... too... then an idea came to mind to install a newer model driver the HL-2290... with my HL-1110 (that was bought before 1 month and is the same firmware and old driver from 2014)... so the HL-2290 driver did the job (solution)

It was very weird... and I think very bad for Brother... I loved their simplicity but I think that those guys working there ...boring... to create a nice driver...

Many thanks to All !!
