pdf files have the search text facility within the pdf file, but how can access this from outside.. from my app and grab the found text?

There is no simple way to do it. Usually you start a third party viewer in order to show pdf documents.

There is an internal pdf viewer library. You should check whether it supports searching (or text extraction).
