My Pixel 4a updated to Android13 and whenever my mapping app copies the present position to the clipboard I get a sort of toast message at the bottom left. As it does this on every location update for the benefit of other mapping apps this annoying thing sits there flashing at me and I can find no way to disable it. Is there a way to get rid of it?

No, that is a privacy setting in Android 13 that optionally allows a toast to be shown whenever an app copies from the clipboard. This pops up for a few seconds when the clipboard is set.
Yes. It allows you to obscure sensitive data copied to the clipboard but I can find no way to block the overlay from displaying which is incredibly annoying and distracting
