BLE remote control... how to "learn" it?

The new decoder model I install comes with a BLE remote control...
I wonder how difficult it could be to interface it, and "learn" its codes?
Any ideas how I could try it?

Is it a peripheral device? Try to connect to it with an iOS or Android device and see which services and characteristics are available.
