Hi folks.
Well, I thought I might share my experience in the struggle of bringing my app to the Google Playstore ..
After an accident I was bound to a wheelchair and then had to walk on crutches for quite a few months and I really couldn't do a whole lot of things during this time. So I decided to start a game project using B4x.
I started out with a rough idea about what I wanted to create and with the help of this community I got along quite well and progressed quite fast within the first 3 months.
The game was heading towards the end after about 6 months. Then I decided to take a closer look at the playstore. I did a lot of reading and eventually applied for a playstore account, paying 25 bucks.
I kept on programming because as the game development went on, new ideas on what else to implement into the game kept crossing my mind as well.
So, the project was growing and things got more complicated.
Meanwhile, I thought it would be great to upload the game to the playstore and share the project with friends and family.
Well, what can I say, here is when the trouble began....
Finding a way to maneuver myself through the jungle of options in the game console, I discovered this would not be a piece of cake and it would take much longer than I first expected.
As I was looking forward to finally seeing my game in the playstore soon, I wasn't prepared to spend so much time with that game console afterall.
After about 2 weeks I got myself familiarized with the structure of the game console, now partially knowing what to do - it had been a pain in the neck, left me wondering and frustrated at the same time.
Questionnaires, Guidelines, Privay Statement, Internal testing, Closed testing, Open testing, production and so on...
I didn't want to believe what bullshit Google is pulling me through just to get a single plain app into their playstore.
I was about to give up - I just about had enough of that crap!
Nealy going insane, my wife convinced me to take a couple of days off, just to focus my mind on something else again.
It took me about 5 weeks to finally gain production access for a game that was pretty much finished at that time, following and completing all the steps that Google required.
Especially the Closed Testing phase was driving me nuts. After all, I wasn't applying for a job at the oval office...
Friends began to call me a NERD, my wife and daughter thought I was psychologically disturbed...
Now, after about 10 months, the game has really made it to the Google playstore. When I started out, I thought this would be a moment of pride and joy when you hit the production button and publish my game to billions of Android users out there.
Well, maybe it was, at least to some extend. But after struggling so long, I am having mixed feelings about this. I often ask myself if all this has been worth the effort.
Well, we will see...
Anyway, I can walk again, no more crutches or wheelchair.
Indeed, B4x helped me during that time to keep up my spirit and it kept me busy.
So, my advice to new programmers that sincerely plan to publish their project in the playstore: Be prepared for a lot of surprises. Apply for the developer account way ahead of time and get yourself acquainted with the play console.
By the way, if anybody is interested to see my game, here are the playstore links...
There is a free Trial version and a paid Pro version. Feel free to try both of them.
