Can I Make B4A work on Android Development Board?

Basic4android should work with any device running Android 1.6 or above. I'm not familiar with this board so I do not know if it imposes any special restrictions.

In most cases you can accesses the ports through a virtual file.

I have looked at the website and would be very interested in your findings. This would solve an immediate problem I have as I could migrate my POS system from Windows (which is going to hell with v8) to Android (which is getting close to heaven )

timwil, may I ask what you are currently using for hardware?

I am not sure I understand the question.

My current POS is running Windows XP (desktop with touch screen monitor or MSI All-In-One) or Windows 7 (MSI All-In-One). It is a custom VB6 application connecting to a MSSQL database.

I have been looking at the possibility of a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10. The POS printers would be network connected and I would have to find a way to connect a mag stripe reader to allow for credit cards. Also it would be connected via wireless or Ethernet if possible.

Having looked at the Digi board I see where I can connect the POS printers via RS232, connect to the server via Ethernet and use a USB mag stripe reader for the credit cards.

Depending on a job I am working on I might just order one of those devices for evaluation on Monday.

Thank you for the explanation. I mistakenly thought you might be using an embedded type of Windows board and I was curious.

I've been programming Windows CE devices for a loooong time and was looking to make the plunge into an embedded device when I found the Digi board. B4A is such a joy to work with (as opposed to eVC++) and there are so many advantages of Android over WinCE, hoping we'll be able to move out in that direction.

Please post your experiences, good or bad, if you get one of these.

I have been working with Windows Mobile up to v6.5 and the move to v7 and v8 are just impossible. I stumbled over b4a in the last year and have given up even trying to work with WinMobile any more. I got the Basic4PPC with is a sister product but the devices available and the stress involved got me over to Android full time now.

I will let you know if it works, or doesn't, out

Although it's been quite a while, I can't really accurately answer the question... My board didn't work right out of the box and I didn't have much time to play. Digi support quickly got it to boot but beyond that I haven't gotten it to do anything. Mostly because I've been distracted by other projects. Within the next week or two I plan to spend some quality time with their support. Right now it won't connect with anything in any manner... I will post when I actually know something.
