Android Question Chrome OS to be included in Android

Does anyone have a guess on how Android will change or how chrome OS will change. Is chrome OS very close to being a Microsoft Windows competitor? I cannot see Google reducing chrome OS features. so I must assume That Google is going to make Android compatible with the desktop. I am now retired and plan on using Linux Mint or ChromeBook for Personal stuff and am wondering how advanced Android has become.I was ok with win 10 until they started putting some of win 11 into 10. I now have a Pixel 9 pro that has more power than my old Lenovo laptop which makes the screen size the only problem and I am assuming that a android tablet running Android might do the trick. I can do enough of the user interface on a mobile cell and the balance on a tablet. My app will be of a financial app drawing from a csv bank file and user input (app output to a grid) could be handled on a tablet. Any thoughts?

Google has officially confirmed that it is working to merge Android and Chrome OS into a single unified platform.
The goal is to create a system capable of adapting to all formats — smartphones, tablets, laptops — with a fluid interface, a native desktop mode, and advanced management of windows and external screens.
This means that your already very powerful Pixel 9 Pro could soon function as a real PC with a keyboard, mouse and external display, thanks to Android 16 and its desktop mode.

If you prefer to stay within the Android ecosystem, you have several options:
Android tablet with desktop mode: Android 16 introduces a true PC mode with floating windows and a taskbar.
Android-x86 or FydeOS: Android operating systems suitable for desktop computers
Using an external display with your Pixel 9 Pro: Turn your phone into a desktop computer.

I really thank you Zed. Has 16 been released yet and if so do you know what it is released on or where I can find a list?. I think that you have answered as I have hoped for. I have never developed a android app but have done many in vb 6, dos before that, and cpm before that. I go back before bill gates, steve jobs, and the IBM PC.

The stable version of Android 16 was officially released on June 10, 2025, and is initially available on compatible Pixel smartphones, with other models to follow later in the year. Google released this new version of the mobile operating system before the summer, an approach that coincides with the release of the new Pixel smartphones.

Other manufacturers like Samsung are expected to offer their version based on Android 16, such as One UI 7, during the summer and fall of 2025, with a planned diffusion to the most recent models and other models of the brand.

A little more patience

Wow, interesting topic as the OS wars continue for our consumption.
I was with my wife in a crafts store - Michael's (in the USA] - and see they have their own checkout station. It's a larger than normal touch screen app that had a slight response delay to it. Even the employee made a comment about that. While my wife was checking out, I started playing with it. Nice features and bigger than normal graphics and buttons. You could even pay with cash with it. It had a huge machine for that sitting on the floor under the counter.

Makes you wonder what development tool they used to build it.
Makes me want to call the company HQ and tell them about B4A
