Computer CRASH!

Well that's the end of my desktop computer I've had for a millennium
I had swapped my hard disk for a SSD 1TB about 8 years ago and made the HD a slave drive for data storage - ie: all my app development.
It won't boot so that seems the SSD drive failed and that's what the computer store technician said. So much for a SSD drive lasting longer than a HD. It definitely was a fast drive for the main drive compared to a HD.
I've got to get all my projects off of the HD. There's a case for the HD, where it just slots in, that I can then connect to the new computer with a USB connector, for copying all my data to the new computer.

I'm looking at a laptop this time instead of a desktop. I've also looked at a mini pc for a possible solution. They're all no name brands until you start paying a lot of money.

The ASUS VivoBook 17 inch screen laptop looks pretty good at US$812 which includes tax. It will allow a HDMI connection to a large 32inch screen. Got to have those 2 screens.

So what's your computer war story?

Always setup a RAID 0 (Mirror) on desktop PC's - even with SSD's.

If I get the laptop I'll definitely be getting an external SSD for backup. Learned my lesson.

I have just experienced similar situation. This build (about 7 years) , SSD and slave HD for data refused to boot or show any sort of life.
Fortunately it appears the BIOS battery was dead and quick replacement solved the issue.

But it did produce a period of panic. I dont keep any form of recovery image and although everything important is backed up
to the clouds, I would still have a lot of work setting up the new system.

I have bucket load of registry hacks and notes to get the system to behave and look how I like it. MS has really lost the plot.
I have completey given up trying to get the humble night light feature to work as expected.

Is that related to a computer expectation or are you truly still trying to get a night light working?

ha ha ... def computer. I recently had second Cataract done, and for a time was extremely sensitive to light.
So again attempted to set up the night light 'feature ?" on my PC.
Initially I tried set hours , but that failed. So then I tried Sunrise Sunset setting, which would have been perfect if i lived on Tatooine !.

I now just use the Action Centre . Turn NightLight OFF , which turns it ON
And if I'm lucky both monitors are affected.

That's great mangojack. Not sure what all that is. All I know is how to plug in a night light into rhe wall socket.
